For that reason, you may be wondering whether or not you should attend a makeup school.

There are some questions that you may want to take the time to ask yourself. These questions may help make it easier for you to decide whether or not a makeup school is right for you.

Makeup or beauty schools come in some different formats. It could be a two-year course in a college or three-year degree course in a university. Or, it could be a six-month certificate course in TAFE, for example. It’s not cheap to go to beauty schools, so you want to evaluate what you can get out of the course. Do your research!

Now, you have to decide if you want to be a makeup artist, a beautician or a beauty consultant in the future as your career. If you are interested in having a long-term career in the beauty industry, it may be well worth it for you to attend a beauty school or even get a degree from an accredited college or university.

From a personal perspective as a freelance makeup artist, besides the accredited certificate, it’s the network! Usually, the beauty school would have their connection in the industry. Students will get a chance to involve in a real job as a makeup artist. Be prepared to do it for free when you’re still learning. It’s perfect for your portfolio. Once you have graduated, you’ll have a ready-to-go portfolio for you to show to potential clients. So, pick a school which can connect you to the right people and bring you to the industry.  Also, the tuition usually comes with some makeup products or brushes! 🙂
